Language and Methodology - Primary


Who is the course for?

Practising teachers of English who are working at primary level (children aged 5 – 12) who want to improve their own English language competence and learn new techniques and activities for the teaching of English. Language level: participants should have an intermediate level of English or above.

Course aims

  • To improve your competence in English
  • To teach you new techniques to use with your students

Course programme

Language Improvement
This component focuses on the development of the four language skills with a particular emphasis on the key skills of listening and speaking. There’ll also be plenty of opportunities to widen the range of your vocabulary and improve your pronunciation. There’ll be some remedial work according to the needs of the group.

Teaching Techniques
Participants will be able to experience new techniques designed to help students acquire language and discuss their effectiveness and ways of adapting them to fit in with different teaching contexts. Sessions include:

  • Teaching vocabulary
  • Encouraging your students to speak
  • Making grammar fun
  • Helping your students to listen
  • Using songs and games
  • Teaching pronunciation
  • Storytelling

EU funding

EU funding to the value of 1500 euros is available for teachers from the European Union and Associated Countries.

Why come to Bell Bedgebury?

The tutors are practising teachers and trainers, many of whom have written language teaching material. Bell Bedgebury is located in an outstanding site in the middle of beautiful parkland in Kent. The centre is exceptionally well equipped, with three lakes, a horse-riding centre, an outdoor swimming-pool, tennis courts and a dedicated arts and crafts centre. Participants on our teachers’ courses are accommodated on-site or in local homestays when available. All meals are provided.
