Who is the course for?

Experienced teachers of English, with an advanced standard of English (Language level: C1), working with secondary or adult students.

Course aims

  • To examine current trends in contemporary use of English, in Britain and internationally
  • To provide language development and practice
  • To present teaching techniques and ideas for teaching the topics covered

Course programme

The course is taught through a series of informal lectures, seminars and workshops. Topics can include:

  • Language change
  • Trends in lexical change and new words
  • Teenage language
  • Slang and idiom
  • Taboo/political correctness
  • Varieties of English
  • Exploiting authentic materials

EU funding

EU funding to the value of 1500 euros is available for teachers from the European Union and Associated Countries.
