English Pathways is a general intensive English course which combines 15 hours a week of Language Development classes with six hours a week of a Special Subject of your choice. Language Development classes are based on the Bell Syllabus and build listening, speaking, reading and writing skills, as well as developing grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. In the afternoons, you choose a Special Subject from a broad range of interesting topics. The availability of special subjects will depend on student numbers and your level of English.

At Bell London you can choose to do just 15 hours of Language Development classes. This is ideal if you want to have more free time to explore London.

Bell welcomes students at all levels from Elementary to Proficient. However, if you are a beginner in English please contact us to discuss your requirements and check availability of classes at this level.

The Bell Syllabus

English Pathways courses are based on the Bell Syllabus which sets out the range of language skills students can expect to acquire at each level.

Bell Certificates and Diplomas

Students who successfully complete an English Pathways course of six weeks or more, and submit all required coursework to their tutor, will be awarded a Bell International Certificate, Higher Certificate or Diploma.

Bell Certificate in English

  • You successfully complete an English Pathways course of at least six weeks.
  • You pass the Bell test for your level.

Bell Higher Certificate in English

  • You successfully complete an English Pathways course of at least 12 weeks.
  • You pass the Bell test at Intermediate level (Bell Level 4) or above.

Bell Diploma in English

  • You successfully complete an English Pathways course of at least 18 weeks.
  • You pass the Bell test at Upper-intermediate level (Bell Level 5) or above.

Specialised workshops run in the afternoons and focus on life and work skills or specialist topics. We operate a variety of core modules throughout the year:

Life in Malta
Improve your English whilst learning about life in Malta, including the history and culture of the island

English for work
Learn the English you need for work, for attending meetings, interviews, telephoning, writing reports and doing business in different cultures.
