Planning your course

Click to expandWhat is included in a group package?

As our programmes are tailor-made, we can provide you with a group course to suit your every need. We combine expert language tuition with an outstanding social programme including excursions and activities. You can study at one of our UK centres, or at an institution of your choice, and enjoy our wide range of accommodation options. Find out more about our course options.

Click to expandCan we choose the length of our course?

Yes. Bell group courses are designed around your specific needs and are flexible in duration. Typically, courses last from one to eight weeks, and we will work with you to ensure the length of your course suitably reflects the learning requirements of your group.

Click to expandDo you have restrictions on group size?

We welcome groups of all sizes from 4 to 60+. Previous groups have ranged from four trainee diplomats, 30 high school students to 265 air traffic controllers, engineers, technicians and trainers in smaller groups over a three year period.

Click to expandCan we all attend as a group if we have different professions and language levels?

Yes, there are different options available to ensure all individuals in your group receive the best possible tuition. We assess the language level of all individuals to ensure we teach effectively in one, or more, of the following ways:

  • Mixed nationality classes – group members are divided according to their different language levels and join existing classes with other nationalities who are of similar language levels (e.g. General English classes or exam preparation leading to a recognised qualification).
  • Mixed nationality plus – group members attend a combination of:
    1. Existing classes, integrating with other nationalities according to language level (e.g. morning open-enrolment classes to study General English with students of a similar language level).
    2. Closed-group classes, where participants study with their group (e.g. afternoon closed-group classes to focus on presentation skills or English for Specific Purposes, for example, where language levels may be mixed).
  • Monolingual groups – all group members, or part of a group, have the same language level and/or objective. Participants are taught in closed groups together and do not mix with existing classes.

Location and facilities

Click to expandAt which Bell centres can we study?

You can study at one of our three UK centres which include Bell International College Cambridge, Bell International Institute London and Bell Bedgebury Language Centre. During July and August, groups can also study at Bell Teacher Campus, based at Homerton College, part of the University of Cambridge. Alternatively, our courses can be delivered in-company or at the institution of your choice.

Click to expandCan our groups study at different centres?

Yes, this is perfect for larger groups. Previous organisations have split their group into two or three smaller groups (depending on learning needs and language ability) and each group has studied at a different Bell centre. By studying at different centres, each group can benefit from the local cultural activities and excursion opportunities, which may be more relevant to the learning needs of one group (e.g. aviation team visiting a London air control unit). A group may also choose to study at more than one Bell centre, for example opting to study at Bell Bedgebury in their first week, before travelling to Bell Cambridge for their second week.

Click to expandWhat study facilities do you have onsite?

Our centres offer a range of high-quality study facilities and many classrooms have interactive whiteboards. Our learning and multimedia centres provide up-to-date resources and facilities – we invest in new materials each month – and stay open after teaching hours.

Course options

Click to expandCan you design a timetable to match the group's needs?

Yes – our speciality is designing the perfect timetable for each individual group to match their precise needs. We will discuss all your language and learning requirements with you, and work with you to ensure all your requirements are met. Our language programmes include:

Click to expandHow many hours of language tuition will we receive each week?

On a Bell course, you will receive a complete immersion experience. This includes class-based learning, social and cultural activities, excursions and personal study time. We encourage all our students to immerse themselves fully in the British culture, meet new people and try new activities, which will benefit their language learning. In our experience, the optimum number of hours of class-based tuition per week is 21, although this may range from 15 to 30 hours per week depending on your needs, and may be distributed differently per day.

Click to expandWhat learning techniques can be incorporated into specialist language tuition on a group course?

We can introduce a variety of learning techniques from consolidating specific terminology, vocabulary and terms relating to a profession through listening, reading and audiovisual exercises to role-play, simulations and presentations. Educational visits and interaction with guest speakers all add to this experience.

Click to expandCan we incorporate cultural awareness and British culture into our learning?

Yes, we can design your course to include a focus on British culture, life, history or politics, depending on what your learning objectives are. We incorporate specific vocabulary learning and project-based work focusing on varying cultural aspects, which can also be excellent preparation for excursions. We encourage a full immersion experience, whereby participants improve their language through class-based, social and cultural experiences. Other features

Click to expandWhat kind of excursions and activities do you offer?

As part of our group courses, we include a diverse social programme to inspire and motivate your group. You'll be able to choose from a range of different onsite activities and excursions around the UK (depending on centre and course duration) which may include London, Oxford, Cambridge, Stratford, Brighton, Windsor and Bath.

Click to expandCan you organise guest speakers and educational visits?

In order for you to get the most out of your experience at Bell, we can arrange for guest speakers to present on specific topics (e.g. on technical content or on an aspect of cultural, political or corporate life in the UK). Educational visits can also be arranged if specifically requested, subject to availability and timings (e.g. a visit to the law courts).

Click to expandWhat are the accommodation options?

We offer a wide range of accommodation options, including homestay (living with a local family), residential and hotels/B&Bs.

If your group is from an EEA country (European Economic Area) or are Swiss nationals, you will not require a visa to study in the UK. If you are a group of visa nationals who need visas to come to the UK no matter how short the duration you will need a visa before you travel. Non-visa nationals who don't require a visa in advance for a course which is less than six months, will get this on entry.
